Somewhere, someone is crying. And the world laughs. Somewhere, someone is watching someone else cry. And the world laughs. Somewhere, someone is dying. And the world laughs. Somewhere, someone has just committed suicide. And the world laughs. Somewhere, someone is realizing how it feels to despair; to have your world fall around you, to have everything you believed in and hoped for fail; to understand the difference between sadness and misery, and between misery and emotional death. And the world laughs, sighing to itself how wonderful life is. When people grin while pain is before them, when people avoid thought because it disturbs them too much, when a grieving, aching life is pronounced to be beautiful, then will the blind walk the Earth and fill it with a cheerful buzz, as the tormented are forced to withdraw and lead out their senseless lives, alone and unloved, and forgotten. Oh, what a sick world that cannot understand. Oh, what utterly lost souls that do not see their own folly. How thoughtless not to recognize sadness when it lies in front of you. The wise are vastly outnumbered. They cannot win the fight. God help us all.
