Possibly the deepest, most important question anyone can ask is, what is the purpose of life? It is a question that has been asked, time and time again, by virtually everyone, at one point or another. Usually, if there is any answer proposed, it is one of two things: Either we are here to do something with our life, to achieve some kind of goal or higher purpose to make the world a better place for others, or there is no point to life and while we're alive we might as well just have as much fun as possible. If the first answer is true, then what should we do to improve the world? *Can* we improve the world? After all, one person usually can't change much. Not in a world of billions of people. On the other hand, what is "fun"? For many, it's a party. Others like to play sports, or experience entertainment like TV or music. Is such a life worth living? Has the person who's kept themselves riotously entertained from cradle to grave led a full life? After all, they enjoyed themselves, didn't they? But how many people choose either path? Ask most people their goal in life, and they'll respond with things like a good job, a nice house, lots of money, etc. How many people ever get rich? Few people in this world will ever have a fortune. Most have to continue working until they die or retire. How do most people spent their lives? They get up in the morning, go to work, and come home to eat dinner. Usually the 3 or 4 hours left in the evening are then spent watching TV. On weekends, people usually do something to distract themselves until Monday. Do these people enjoy their lives? Most of their waking hours will have been spent working. Their free time is used to wait until it's time to work again. When their lives, which they worked so hard to support, are over, they will not have spent most of their time enjoying themselves. Now will they have left a legacy, or achieved any lasting effect. Their lives will simply be lived to exist. To anyone who will listen, I beg of you, do not live just because you were born. Do not live from one day to the next, lest you die in vain. Do something with your life, have a purpose, have a goal, achieve something which will have a lasting effect after you die. Live to help others, and you will find a life that is not only enriching and enjoyable, but also purposeful. Or, you can party from the time you get up until the time you go to sleep...
