Much has been said and written about simplifying life. People in North America generally agree that life has gotten too complicated these days, and seek for ways to simplify it by eliminating unncessary complications. A lot of what I've written in the past is basically about this; Making life better by getting rid of needless vanities or procedures that serve little or no purpose. There comes a point, however, where life can be made too simple. I've also frequently mentioned the ultra-simple lifestyle that too many people lead. It is possible to do literally nothing except work, eat, and sleep. If you'd rather live in the wild and eat food which you pick yourself from the ground, then it's not even necessary to work. You can live like an animal, simply living off the land. This is the most stripped-down lifestyle that a person can have. However, it's not the ideal for most people. Indeed, I believe it should not be. Every person is born for a reason. Everybody is born to do something with their life. And people *should* do something with their lives; If they don't, it's a shame, because that's a wasted life. It may sound silly, but there is a point where it's desirable to complicate life. So what should people do who are caught up in everyday realities? The "soccer moms" who are busy driving their children to their sports games, the office workers who are stressed because they took a bigger mortgage than they can afford, the headbangers who are bummed because they didn't get tickets to tonight's concert? As far as I can tell, people who're caught up in life need to simplify life as much as is realistically desirable, then build it with things that really matter. In other words, simplify your life down to the bare-bones, then rebuild it again, this time using better building materials. That's the best blueprint for life I can come up with.
